Only 2 More Sleeps Left

We have had another leisure type day here. Only 2 more sleeps until we get to board the plane that will take us from Guangzhou to Tokyo, then we will board another plane from Tokyo to Detroit, then finally we will get on the last plane in Detroit to bring us to home sweet home in Atlanta. We should be arriving in Atlanta at 5:40Pm on Friday night on Northwest Airlines Inc - Flight NW 0469. We can't wait to see Chris and Kim and Michael and any other familiar faces at the top of the escalator!

Here is a video from church the other day. You should notice the familiar Chrismas carol song in the video. It was very neat to see everyone there to hear about Jesus. We went to the English/Chinese service so when the preacher would speak, then a translator would then repeat in English. For the songs, they would sing one in Chinese and then the next in English. They even had a big screen with the words on it. So the Chinese have even moved up in technology and don't have hymnals ;) It was a neat experience for sure.

Today Sheila and I and the girls ventured back down to the nail salon. We went the other day and Sheila had her eyebrows shaped for only 5 yuan. That would be about 75 cents! So we knew a pedicure would be reasonably priced. So we went today and Sheila and I both got pedicures and Shelby had her fingernails and her toes painted. Everything combined was 100 yuan ($15 bucks for all 3 of us)! Shelby even received the "special" nail coloring in multi-colors :0

The baby feels better today and she is definately getting more and more attached to me-YEAH! Last night she didn't want to sleep in her crib and only wanted to sleep beside me in the big bed. It made for a restless night for me, but a closer step for us to bond I believe. Faith still won't eat anything solid. She will barely eat congee anymore and she won't touch the baby food anymore either. She still loves the baby puff cereal though and she will eat some baby Chinese wafer cookie things. Other than that she just wants formula and Wahaha in a baby bottle. We will definately have to work on her eating issues at home. Maybe some of Nana's Chicken and Dumplins will straighten her right up!

Many of the WWs have minor eating issues -- avoiding certain textures, etc. Elliana didn't eat for a couple weeks. (We did give her a special formula instead). When she did start eating, she only ate rice (no butter), then went to "crunchy" foods -- chips, crackers, etc. She totally avoided "mushy" foods -- mashed potatoes, bananas -- until a few months ago (home 3 years).

There were 2 types of rice she loved -- Mexican and Chinese fried rice.

Hope this helps!

It looks like you have had a wonderful time in China. Faith was obviously meant for your family.

OK, so I need to know where the nail place is, the hair salon is, and the massage place is... Take note for me.

Our TA is at our agency and our 800 approval is not in our mail box, but I think I have finally griped enough to get it in a scanned email. They are sending it out again overnight - insane! I'm hoping your CA went smoothly - I'm so afraid of getting over there and not having what I need! We are still set to fly out on C'mas day and get Alaina on Sunday... stay tuned!

You were right, the weeks right before have been the craziest ever!

Hope your flights contain 4 sleepy kids!!!

Another Wuchuan parent here who found your blog off of the China Adoption Sites. Hope you don't mind me joining in!

First congratulations on your new daughter! She is just beautiful and looks like she is thriving.

Our Wuchuan daughter is now 8 but was orally defensive for about 4 months after she came home. So give your daughter some time to get used to solid food. What worked for us was to very slowly start mixing Stage 1 baby food into her very hot, sweet bottles of baby formula. As she became used to the flavor and texture of baby food, and more accustomed to her new home, she gradually was willing to try some solid food. As long as she is on the high calcium toddler formula, she is getting adequate nutrition.

Our daughter also had some very funky skin rashes and infections, courtesy of the Wuchuan tropical climate and water. Some were fungal, some was allergic, some we never really figured out. If her skin problems persist after you get her home, take her to doctor. We had great success using triple antibiotic ointment on the infections and tried dye-free Benadryl for the ones we thought might be allergic. We used Lotrimin for the rash we thought might be fungal. She just had really sensitive skin!!

Our daughter is now 8 and doing great. We wish you the same happiness with your Wuchuan daughter that we've had with ours!

Best,
Jane, lucky mom to Ani XiaoYue from Wuchuan
