Day 2 with our Angel

Well this morning after our little play session, Shelby experienced her first true grieving spell. Talk about hard! She will call “Ah moo” over and over again, which is what she called her foster mom. She cried and I cried. It is very difficult to watch her go through one of these spells. I knew they would happen, but when you experience it-it is tough. You know there is nothing that will comfort her and that she must go through this, so you simple hold her and cry with her. She finally fell asleep and after that we left this morning and officially agreed for Ning Fu Hong to become Shelby Ann Kunhong Straight! We then went to a supermarket and did some shopping. We finished up with of course another trip to McDonald’s. As you can see from the pics, Shelby is truly a Straight kid! Our guide was amazed that she wanted to keep drinking my Coke. She said that she did not think she had ever had Coke before and our guide thought is was very funny how she would keep pointing wanting more and more. That Coke is unfortunately the only thing Shelby has drank or eaten today. We were able to get her to take 2 bottles last night and some juice very early this morning. Hopefully she will eat something soon or at least take another bottle.

Oh before I forget to tell all of you that will be coming to China for a child, ERGO ERGO ERGO! It was a big decision for me to invest the $100 I spent on the Ergo, but after yesterday and today, I would have easily paid double!! Shelby wants to be in it all the time and it is very easy on your back and you even have 2 free hands all the time. Definitely a wonderful investment.

Shelby is asleep now and the boys and dad are out swimming so I better lay down for some rest myself. Thank you thank you thank you for all the wonderful and encouraging comments everyone is posting. It has really helped all of us to feel like we are not alone on this amazing journey!

We couldn't stop thinking about Shelby and you guys all day. Know that we are praying for her and all of you - for a comfortable rest of your time in China, for a safe and peaceful trip home and for strength in dealing with the grieving that is yet to come.

Your updates have been wonderful - thank you so much for sharing this incredible experience with us.

My heart aches for both you and Shelby. We can only imagine what she is dealing with inside. I hope you can get some rest. I'm exhausted just from the anxiety, HA! The pictures are wonderful. Love you all,
Sheila

This is all soooo amazing to go through with all of you. How are Caleb and Travis doing especially when Shelby cries? Thanks for sharing all of this with us - we're not with you in person but definately in thought!

Wow- She is priceless. It is so obvious how loved she is and how loved she was by her Amoo. I remember Michelle cried out for Amoo for the first 48 hours and had many of those same crying grieving spells. But slowly the little personality will appear and you will have lots of time with joy and laughter. Although this is so hard- You look like Shelby has been in your arms forever. God is SO GOOD. With two boys as sweet and cute as yours -and that sweet Daddy- and loving nurturing Mommy Shelby will be having more and more tossing cups and bowls moments. Michelle can not wait to meet your sweet Shelby. Love the swaddle carrier. We are praying daily for Shelby to be comforted by you all, for safe travel, and for the boys to have a huge amount of fun.

Yeah for the ERGO!!! I know what a hard decision that was to make to purchase the ERGO, but I knew it would be perfect for the princess. You all look so happy and Shelby slowly begin to come out of her shell. I love the picture of her sleeping on you while in the ERGO. She is already starting to feel comfortable. Hugs and kisses to all.

After discussing this with Caleb, we know that Shelby's DEFINITELY a "keeper". We're not sure what she weighs but we're glad that we caught her and we won't be putting her back!

I love the video of Shelby laughing. It is good to hear her laughing. I know that this was a great moment for you. I know that it must be hard to post all of this now that Shelby is with you but, I know that ALL of us here in the USA love it and it's going to kill me to have to wait all day to check it since I have to go back to work tomorrow plus I also have "my class" so it really will be all day that I can't check the computer for an update. When I see you with Shelby in the Ergo it makes me laugh because of all those trips to Tadpoles etc. looking for a carrier and it reminds me of when we would take the clothes and act like they were walking to see if they would fit Shelby. NOW she is in the Ergo and the clothes. Very Funny!!!! I am still in amazement!

We love seeing Shelby's smiling face, especially with the Coke. Sounds like a Miller as well!! You are doing so well with her and we know God is providing the wisdom you need day by day. Thanks for the advice about the ERGO. I have a sling but will try and borrow an ERGO from a friend. Blessings to the Straight family. We know she will feel more secure in your love every day.

What a breath from heaven! She is such a little doll. Hope you and Shelby are getting alot of rest tonight. I am relieved to her that she is wearing 18-24 mths. I thought all those clothes I gave you were not going to work. She appears to be the same size of Jillian. What a cute blog Frank left! She is a keeper!

Hi Caleb.

Are you having fun with Shelby? It was really fun how Shelby was drinking Coke! Is McDonalds different in China?
