Big Families

Hop on over here for a great blog post to read.  I knew adding number 5 would make us one of "those families", but I guess I just didn't realize how many people feel the need to comment on my family.  Just a note to any of you out there who feel the need to speak to someone in the grocery store line with a "big family", the best thing you can say (since you feel you need to comment) would be...You have a beautiful family!  All of us BIG families love that comment :)  Really nothing else needs to be said.

We already know...

Our hands are full.

That yes, we are busy.

How to keep up with all of them.

They are a full-time job.

So thanks for noticing my family, but no thanks on the weird comments.  Just stick to checking out your own groceries, or only comment with N.I.C.E. well-meaning comments.  Remember if you don't have something nice to say...

Oh and I am not falling for all the "Bless your heart" type comments either.  I can tell where your heart really is with those.

Guess I am sounding pretty grumpy at this point.  Just want to get the word out, that even though you may/may not approve of large families, you don't always have to comment to them when you are out and about.  Trust me when I say we get enough attention as it is, just smile and move on.  THANKS!

Amen! And no asking if they are "real!" :)

I think some people might be coming from the right place even though their comments just don't come out right. I see Mom's with five kids and I say to myself "geez I wish I could do that. How awesome it must be to have such a large family and still have your stuff together. That Mom must be superwoman." But that Mom will probably hear me say to my girls "look they have a really big family and they are not arguing" or "wow look at them". I will rethink it next time because of your comment. I do agree with Beth's comment. I want to say, even to well meaning people, "so they are pretend"

That was suppose to be NO, they are pretend..sisters. I can not find my glasses and I hate typing on a lap top. I like a separate key board.

I grew up with 10 siblings. The most common comment back then was, "Are you Catholic?" but I know that my parents got a lot of other comments that were more invasive and less polite. Today? The most common comment is, "I can't believe how well you all get along. I only have xx number of siblings and we fight all the time." Go figure. Keep up the good work, Mom and Dad.

Here's what is strange sometimes it actually is a little easier having a large family now. The big ones occupy the little ones especially when I am cooking dinner. So they really so havve no clue when they make those comments.
